Hotel Miyora, Kithulgala, Sri Lanka
Tucked into a quaint village just 1 km from Kithulgala, Hotel Miyora stands on the banks of the Kelani River in the Sabaragamuwa Province wetlands. Surrounded by wet zone rainforest — one of the wettest corners of Sri Lanka — the property is approximately 95 km from Colombo and is reached via the Colombo–Avissawella–Hatton main road. The hotel holds a Tourist Board approved A-grade rating, and this short video captures the peaceful, green character that makes it a draw for families, company travel groups, and honeymoon couples alike.
The setting is the hotel's greatest asset: tropical jungle pressing close on all sides, the Kelani River flowing alongside the grounds, and a quietness that feels genuinely removed from city life, even though Colombo is only a few hours away.
Accommodation
Hotel Miyora offers 24 air-conditioned guestrooms, each stylishly designed with comfortable furnishings and an attached bathroom supplied with hot and cold water. Every room includes a television and 24-hour room service. Larger travelling parties are catered for with spacious family rooms that are appropriately equipped for groups.
Dining and Facilities
The hotel's signature dining space is the Meeko Restaurant, positioned on the riverside and serving traditional Sri Lankan, Eastern, and Chinese cuisine. Special buffets and barbecue nights are organised on weekends, making the property particularly well suited to company outings. For special occasions, the Rockwind Banquet and Reception Hall accommodates up to 250 guests and is equipped for weddings and receptions. Above the banquet hall, a bar on the upper floor serves a range of local and foreign liquor.
Travellers passing along the Colombo–Hatton road will find a roadside restaurant and pastry shop on the hotel's frontage, where buffet lunches, breakfasts, dinners, soft drinks, pastries, and baked goods are available.
For leisure on the grounds, there is an outdoor swimming pool with a relaxing pool deck, and the hotel organises safe river baths in the Kelani River itself.
Adventure Activities
The surrounding rainforest opens up a wide programme of outdoor pursuits. Hotel Miyora organises eco adventure tours, rainforest expeditions, white-water rafting, endemic bird watching, outdoor camping, canoeing, jungle trekking, rock climbing, rope activities, rope climbing, slidings, waterfall abseiling, confidence jumps, and training programmes.
The hotel also arranges treks to Makulu Ella Waterfall and visits to the Beli Lena ancient cave. Further afield, guests can explore the Handun Ella Waterfall, Olu Ella Waterfall, and the Laxapana Waterfall, and the area serves as a natural starting point for those planning to attempt Sri Lanka's most popular hill climb, Adam's Peak.
