A Sinhala children's story, illustrated throughout, by Indra Srimathi Diyunugala. The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation, so it will suit readers of the language, Sinhala-speaking families abroad and children learning to read in Sinhala.
The tale concerns a giant who lives in a forest beside a village. Taking the form of a dog, he goes among the villagers. A village family helps him, and the giant returns their kindness, filling their lives with happiness. The moral held out to young readers is a plain one: that a kindness received should be repaid.
It is a picture book, and the illustrations carry much of the telling — useful for a child who is still working through the words, or for an adult reading aloud. The story turns on a single idea rather than a long plot, which keeps it within reach of younger listeners.
