A Sinhala-language handbook on Kandyan dance, written by J.E. Sedaraman, one of the traditional exponents of the form. The entire text is in Sinhala; there is no English in it, so a reader without the language will not be able to use it.
Sedaraman's starting point is a change in how the dance is encountered. For a long period it belonged to cultural occasions such as the Kandy Esala Perahera and was largely out of the general public's sight. It is now taught as an aesthetic subject within the school curriculum, and this book is addressed to that situation.
The writing is deliberately plain. Sedaraman set the material out so that it can be used as a working handbook by beginners taking up the dance and equally by the teachers, men and women, who are instructing them. It is published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co.
