A compilation on the history of Sri Lanka, edited by Dr W.M.K. Wijethunga and published in Sinhala by M.D. Gunasena & Co. of Colombo. It spans the island's past from the prehistoric period through to the end of the Eelam war, and treats that span across several strands at once: religious, social, economic and political.
The work is in five volumes, and it is a collaborative undertaking rather than one historian's account. Forty-nine academics — doctors and professors working in the relevant fields — contributed to it, each writing on subjects within their own area of study.
The text is in Sinhala throughout, so a reading knowledge of the language is needed. For Sinhala readers abroad, and for university and institutional collections building Sinhala-language holdings on Sri Lankan history, it is a reference set assembled by specialists and issued by an established Colombo publisher.
