Horace Rumpole, the dishevelled barrister and cigar-smoking devotee of claret and Wordsworth, defends the underdog with wit and cunning in this classic collection of legal tales. These original stories showcase the courtroom brilliance and unconventional charm that made the Old Bailey Hack a legendary figure in English comic fiction. Readers meet an array of colourful villains, witness Rumpole's triumphs in the courtroom, and accompany him on regular visits to Pommeroy's wine bar, his second home away from the Old Bailey.
