A Sinhala-language account of insurance law, written for readers in Sri Lanka and published by M. D. Gunasena. The text is entirely in Sinhala, so a reading knowledge of the language is needed to use it.
The starting point is a practical one. Life is uncertain, accident or illness can arrive at any moment, and insurance cover has become something close to a necessity. From that follows the author's argument that an understanding of insurance law matters not only to practising lawyers and law students, but to the ordinary reader who holds a policy. The book was put together to meet that need, and it is pitched at those three audiences together rather than at the specialist alone.
Kapila Gamini Jayasinghe is an attorney-at-law. He took his law degree at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, and holds a postgraduate diploma in human rights law from the Institute of Human Rights.
M. D. Gunasena is an established Colombo publisher with a long list of Sinhala titles, including legal and educational works. Readers abroad who follow Sri Lankan law, Sinhala-reading students outside the country, and anyone building a working shelf of Sri Lankan legal texts in Sinhala will find this a straightforward addition to it.
