The text is entirely in Sinhala and set in Sinhala script. There is no parallel English text, so this edition suits readers who read Sinhala comfortably — Sinhala-speaking households abroad wanting Stevenson in their own language, students reading the novel in translation, and collectors of Sinhala translations of English fiction.
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote in the nineteenth century, and Kidnapped remains among the works he is read for. Pathirage's translation brings it into Sinhala for readers who would otherwise meet it only in the original.
