Harischandra Turmeric Powder is ground dried turmeric root, sold by the maker as 100% turmeric powder, in a 100g pack. It gives Sri Lankan dishes their golden colour and a warm, earthy note.
A little goes a long way: most curries need only a quarter to half a teaspoon. Harischandra has packed spices at Matara since 1958.
In the kitchen
- Dhal, potato and vegetable curries, and white curries in coconut milk.
- Yellow rice (kaha bath) with cinnamon, cloves and cardamom.
- Rub with salt and chilli on fish before frying.

Storage
Keep tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Turmeric stains, so use a dry spoon and wipe spills quickly.
