Spend two hours pedalling through one of Asia's best-preserved colonial towns. Choose an 8:30 am or 4:00 pm start; your guide meets you in front of the Bank of Ceylon on Lighthouse Street inside Galle Fort for a quick safety briefing. From there you ride the fort's colourful Dutch-era streets, with names such as Leyn Baan Street and Middelpuntstraat, past yellow and orange walled buildings with clay-tiled roofs, and stop to look inside some of them. You also cycle to one of the Dutch-era churches and visit it.
Your guide takes you up onto the ramparts to see the shape of the fort from above, with sea views and possibly the ruins of old Dutch jetties, telling the fort's colonial history as you go. The ride then heads to the lighthouse: the original Dutch lighthouse stood about 100 metres away until it burned down in 1934, and the current one was built in 1939 during British rule. You finish back at the Bank of Ceylon at 10:30 am or 6:00 pm. Cycles, a cycling guide, and water and refreshments during the ride are included. This is a private tour and riders must be aged 12 or above. Hotel pick-up and drop-off, food and drinks, gratuities and personal expenses are not included.
