A picture book for young children by Sybil Wettasinghe, the Sri Lankan writer and illustrator, published in English by M. D. Gunasena & Co. of Colombo. It belongs to a series of large letter books she made for children at the earliest reading stage, where the type is set big enough to be followed by a child who is still working letter by letter, and the pictures carry as much of the story as the words do.
Wettasinghe worked as both author and illustrator, and her books are part of what several generations of Sri Lankan children grew up reading. This English edition puts one of them within reach of readers abroad — families with a Sri Lankan connection, parents building a bookshelf that is not entirely British and American, and teachers and librarians looking for picture books from South Asia.
Suited to reading aloud with a small child, and to a beginner reader attempting a book alone for the first time.
