An English vocabulary workbook for young children, built around simple crossword puzzles. The book works through the alphabet letter by letter, giving each letter its own page of puzzles made from words that begin with it.
The format is designed for children who are still learning to read, so there are no written clues to decipher. Every word is cued by a colour picture instead: the child looks at the image, says the word, and fills in the squares. That makes the puzzles solvable by a child who recognises letters and sounds but cannot yet read a sentence of instructions, and it ties each new word to something they can see. Alongside vocabulary, the puzzles ask a child to count letters, match sounds to shapes and work out where a word fits — the kind of thinking a crossword demands, scaled down.
