This page explains how Vrishabha (Taurus) and Meena (Pisces) compare in Sri Lankan marriage matching, known as porondam in Sinhala and porutham in Tamil. The results change depending on which partner is born in which sign. The birth stars of both partners decide the full match.
Which rashi does this pairing refer to?
The rashi used in porondam and porutham is the moon sign (chandra rashi). It is the sign the Moon occupied at birth, read in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so a person who calls themselves Taurus in the Western sense may have a different moon sign.
Your moon sign comes from your exact date, time and place of birth. Matching also looks at the order of the pair. Counting from the bride's sign to the groom's sign gives a different number from counting the other way, so Vrishabha and Meena give two separate sets of results. Both are explained below.
What happens when the bride is Vrishabha and the groom is Meena?
Counting from Vrishabha to Meena gives 11. In both the Sinhala and Tamil systems, the rashi item is obtained for this count.
The rashi lords are Venus for Vrishabha and Jupiter for Meena. Their relationship is mixed: one lord regards the other as neutral, while the other regards it as hostile. For that reason, rashyadhipathi (Sinhala) and rasi adhipathi (Tamil) are not obtained.
Vashya, or vasya in Tamil, is also not obtained in both systems. Overall, this direction starts with one rashi-level item in place and two that are not. The stars then complete the picture.
What changes when the bride is Meena and the groom is Vrishabha?
Counting from Meena to Vrishabha gives 3. The two traditions treat this count differently.
In the Sinhala porondam, the rashi item is partly obtained. In the Tamil porutham, the rasi item is not obtained.
The rashi lords are still Jupiter and Venus, and their relationship is still neutral on one side and hostile on the other. So rashyadhipathi and rasi adhipathi are not obtained. Vashya and vasya are also not obtained in both systems.
This shows why the order of the pair matters. The same two signs can produce noticeably different rashi-level results depending on who is the bride and who is the groom.
Why do the birth stars decide the real match?
Rashi items are only part of matching. Most of the porondam and porutham depends on the two birth stars (nakshatra). Each sign pairing allows 81 star-quarter combinations, and their outcomes vary widely.
With a Vrishabha bride and a Meena groom:80% of combinations pass the Sinhala porondam, not counting the weekday item.Only 4% fall in the weaker range on the Tamil count.
With a Meena bride and a Vrishabha groom:25% pass the Sinhala porondam.98% fall in the weaker Tamil range.
In neither direction do any combinations reach 8 of 10 porutham. None show a Tamil rajju clash. Your own two stars give the answer that applies to you.
