When both partners share Meena (Pisces) as their rashi, the porondam and porutham calculators give a clear picture at the sign level. This page explains what those rashi results mean, and why the final answer always comes from the two birth stars.
Which rashi is being compared here?
In Sri Lankan marriage matching, the rashi is the moon sign (chandra rashi), worked out in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka. It is not the sun sign printed in newspaper horoscopes, so someone who reads Pisces in a magazine may have a different chandra rashi.
Here both the bride and the groom have the Moon in Meena. Because the two signs are the same, the results are identical whichever way round they are read: bride in Meena and groom in Meena gives exactly the same outcome as the reverse. Counting from the bride's rashi to the groom's gives a rashi count of 1, meaning the two Moons sit in the same sign.
What do the rashi and rashi lord results show?
In the Sinhala porondam system, rashi porondam is obtained for this pair, and the Tamil system agrees, with rasi porutham also obtained. A shared moon sign is treated favourably at this level in both traditions.
The rashi lord check, called rashyadhipathi in Sinhala and rasi adhipathi in Tamil, is also obtained. Meena is ruled by Jupiter, so both partners' rashi lords are the same planet. When the lord is shared, there is no question of friendship or enmity between two different planets, and the calculator marks this item as obtained in both systems and in both directions.
Why is vashya not obtained for Meena and Meena?
Vashya (vasya in Tamil) looks at whether one rashi is traditionally considered drawn towards, or in harmony with, the other according to a fixed classical list. For this pair, the calculator shows vashya as not obtained in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems, and in both directions.
This is simply how the classical vashya table treats a Meena–Meena pairing; it is one item among many. Families should see it alongside everything else rather than in isolation. Rashi-level results are only a starting point, and a single item not being obtained does not by itself settle whether a match is suitable. The fuller picture comes from the birth stars.
Why do the birth stars decide the real match?
Most porondam and porutham items depend on each person's nakshatra (birth star) and its quarter, not on the rashi alone. Within a Meena–Meena pairing there are 81 possible star-quarter combinations, and their results vary widely.
Across those combinations, about 74% pass the Sinhala porondam check (excluding the weekday item). In the Tamil system, about 25% reach 8 of 10 porutham, about 51% come out weak, and about 41% show a rajju clash. Two couples who are both Meena can therefore receive very different results.
