DG Labookellie
DG Labookellie is the tea of the Labookellie estate, one of the oldest and largest tea estates in Sri Lanka, on the western slopes of the Nuwara Eliya District above 4,900 feet. It is made by DG Tea, part of the Damro Group, which manages more than 7,000 acres of tea in the central highlands, and the leaf is hand-picked and processed on the estate. Abroad it is often sold as Damro Labookellie.
The range covers the classic black tea grades: whole-leaf OP and Pekoe for a smooth cup, and the broken BOP and BOPF grades for a stronger one, with Special Blend in household sizes, English Breakfast and black tea bags. Melfort is the single-estate green tea, loose or in tea bags.
Beyond the classics: flavoured black teas such as Earl Grey, Masala Chai, Ginger and Mango, loose or in tea bags; Melfort green tea with jasmine, lemon, mint or camomile; the Light Bright teas with their light gold liquor; and the estate's rare teas: Silver Tips, Golden Tips and Planter's Whisper from the purple TRI 2043 tea bush, White Needle and Golden Flower Infuse from century-old seedling bushes, and a Sri Lankan matcha.
