Araliya Beach Resort & Spa is a high-rise beach resort at Yaddehimulla, Unawatuna, with an infinity pool on its 12th floor and sea-facing rooms, apartments and suites. Run by Araliya Resorts & Spas, it has a beach club with its own pool, more than ten restaurants, bars and lounges, a spa, a gym, a kids' club and a PADI dive school, and Galle Fort is about ten minutes away by road.
Every room has air conditioning and a ceiling fan, Wi-Fi, a minibar, a safe, tea and coffee making facilities, bathrobes and slippers, and a bathroom with both a bathtub and a separate shower cubicle. The nine names below are the ones you will see when you choose a room; they run from the standard rooms to the two top suites.
There is a lot of choice. Olives is the international restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Saffron serves Indian food, while SharkBite is a seafood restaurant and the Tiki Bar and Beach Club Bar are down by the sand. Té Lounge, the Sky Lounge and the bar at the 12th-floor infinity pool are for drinks with a view, Dutch Fort and Bay View open in the evenings, and the 555One night club runs late. Room service is available around the clock, and kids' menus and babysitting can be arranged.
Swim in the pool at the beach club or ride the lift to the infinity pool, bar and sun deck on the 12th floor. The resort has a spa, a fitness centre, a kids' club and children's play area, and daily yoga and meditation sessions. Divers can train or go out with the resort's PADI-approved dive school, and other water sports can be arranged on the beach.
The resort is on the beach at Yaddehimulla, along the coast from the bay of Unawatuna, and the white Japanese Peace Pagoda on Rumassala hill, above the far end of the bay, is a short drive away. The ramparts, churches and lanes of Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are about nine minutes' drive away. Along the coast to the east, the stilt fishermen of Koggala and the boat trips on Koggala Lagoon make a good afternoon out, and whale watching trips leave from the south coast in season.
Unawatuna is just south-east of Galle, reached from Bandaranaike International Airport along the Southern Expressway, and we can arrange a private car and driver to take you from the airport to the resort. By train, the coastal line from Colombo stops at Unawatuna station, close to the resort.
It suits families and groups who want a big, lively resort with everything on site, from a kids' club to a night club, and travellers who want an apartment with a kitchen for a longer beach stay. Those after a small, quiet hideaway should look elsewhere. For more choice in the area see our places to stay in Unawatuna, or the other Araliya Resorts & Spas hotels.
