Pandanus Beach Resort & Spa is a five-storey beach hotel at Yalegama in Induruwa, a few kilometres south of Bentota, on a quiet stretch of Induruwa Beach. Designed by the architect Vinod Jayasinghe and opened in June 2014, it has 80 rooms, each looking out over the Indian Ocean, along with a long outdoor pool and its own spa.
The resort stands on Galle Road at Yalegama, Induruwa, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, with the beach directly in front of it. Induruwa railway station on the coastal line is about 1 km away, Bentota station is about 5 km to the north, and Kosgoda, known for its turtle hatcheries, is about 5 km to the south.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 115 km from the hotel by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the Southern Expressway or the coast road usually takes around 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the hotel in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Pandanus Beach Resort & Spa.
The hotel lists four categories: Superior Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Presidential Suites and a Royal Suite. Every room has a balcony or terrace facing the sea, with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a minibar, a tea and coffee maker, an in-room safe, a writing desk, free Wi-Fi and a walk-in shower.
The main restaurant on the first floor serves international and Sri Lankan dishes with an emphasis on seafood, with tables in the air-conditioned dining room or looking out to sea. For drinks there is the Sky Lounge, an open-air bar on the roof that is the place to watch the sun go down, and a bar beside the pool.
The outdoor pool is about 150 feet long, and there is a separate children's pool with a lifeguard. Pandanus Wellness Spa offers massages and treatments, and there is a gym and a small shopping arcade with a gem and jewellery store, a tea shop and a souvenir shop.
Induruwa is a quieter beach than Bentota, so most days here are spent on the sand, in the pool or at the spa. The turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda are a short drive south, and Bentota, to the north, is the place for water sports and boat trips into the mangroves of the Bentota River. Further afield are the Madu River and its islands near Balapitiya and the historic city of Galle with its fort. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the hotel.
