Goldi Sands Hotel

Negombo, Sri Lanka
★★

Goldi Sands Hotel is a beachfront hotel on Negombo Beach at Ethukala, with 131 rooms, two pools and a drive of about 15 minutes from the international airport. Its rooms open onto balconies or terraces facing the Indian Ocean or the gardens, and from them you can watch the fishing boats set out each evening. Seafood straight from those boats is the speciality of its kitchen, and its closeness to the airport makes it an easy first or last night in Sri Lanka.

What are the rooms like at Goldi Sands Hotel?

All 131 rooms are air-conditioned double rooms in five categories. Every category has a king-size or twin beds, a work desk, a sitting area, complimentary Wi-Fi, a smart TV, an international direct-dial telephone, a safe, a mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and a bathroom with a rain shower. Connecting rooms are available.

  • Junior Suites: five suites, each with a private balcony or terrace. Each takes two adults plus two children.
  • Suites (Duplex): the hotel has just two duplex suites, set over two levels, with a private balcony or terrace. Each takes two adults plus two children.
  • Deluxe Rooms: 57 Deluxe Sea View rooms with a private balcony or terrace looking out to the ocean. Each takes two adults plus two children. The hotel also has a separate Deluxe Wing, whose rooms add a minibar, bathrobes and slippers; ask which wing your room is in when you book if that matters to you.
  • Standard Sea View: 57 rooms with a private balcony or terrace and a view of the sea. Each takes two adults plus two children.
  • Economy Room: ten rooms, each for two guests. A sensible choice for a short airport stopover.

Where exactly is Goldi Sands Hotel?

The hotel stands right on the sand at Ethukala, the hotel strip north of Negombo town, in a garden of coconut palms between the main building and the beach. Negombo Beach is on the doorstep, the centre of Negombo is about 4 km away in a straight line, and the nearest station, Kattuwa Railway Station, is under 1 km away. How do I get from the airport to Goldi Sands Hotel?

The hotel is about 9 km in a straight line from Bandaranaike International Airport, and the hotel puts the drive at about 15 minutes. Colombo is 32 km away; the drive time into the city depends heavily on traffic. The simplest way in is our private transfer between Colombo Airport and Goldi Sands Hotel, with a driver waiting at arrivals whatever time your flight lands.

What is there to eat and drink at Goldi Sands Hotel?

  • Seafood: the kitchen buys its fish and shellfish from the boats that land near the hotel, and seafood dishes are what it is best known for.
  • À la carte: a long menu of international and Sri Lankan dishes, and the chefs will cook a dish you ask for if it is not on the menu.
  • Theme nights: buffets such as Chinese Night, Italian Night, an International Buffet and a Seafood Extravaganza, held in the main restaurant and the Beach Hut restaurant, plus barbecues on the beach.
  • Private dining: a candlelit table can be set up on a quiet part of the beach or beside the pool.
  • Bar: wines, cocktails, beer and spirits, with a pool table.

What facilities does the hotel have?

There are two swimming pools, both looking out over the Indian Ocean, and the Goldi Sands Ayurveda Wellness Center, where trained therapists offer massages, hot oil treatments, herbal baths and tailor-made Ayurveda packages. The hotel also has a 24-hour reception, a lobby lounge, Wi-Fi throughout, 24-hour room service, a lift in the main building, a doctor on call, laundry and foreign currency exchange.

Can I hold a wedding or a conference at Goldi Sands Hotel?

Yes. The air-conditioned banquet halls each seat about 250 guests, and the hotel has long experience of traditional Sri Lankan weddings, with the poruwa ceremony, oil lamp, Kandyan dancers and drummers arranged as part of a package. For meetings there are two air-conditioned conference halls, one for up to 75 people and the other for up to 400, and the short run from the airport makes it practical for groups flying in.

What can I see and do near Goldi Sands Hotel?

Negombo was a trading port of the Portuguese and the Dutch, and much of that past is within a short drive:

The hotel can also arrange diving, deep-sea fishing, cycling tours and visits to traditional clay tile factories.
