About this experience
Board your private, air-conditioned vehicle and spend five hours exploring Negombo, the coastal city north of Colombo that layers Dutch colonial history over a lively present. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide drives you past elegant colonial buildings standing alongside modern business constructions, showing how the city holds two eras side by side. Step inside the 18th-century St. Mary's Church, where thick walls and quiet interiors offer a genuine pause from the busy streets outside.
Throughout the tour your guide fills in the stories behind Negombo's landmarks — the old Dutch fort, the canal network, the bustling fish market district — so the sights carry context, not just scenery. Hotel pick-up and drop-off, a litre of bottled water per person, and all taxes are included. Entrance fees, meals, and gratuities are not covered and are settled directly on the day.

A nice beach walk
Negombo beach is easy to walk along in the company of dozens of crows even though there has been some erosion. There are several restaurants along the beach with variable service and a Rasta feel.

Filthy beach!
Absolutely filthy!! Rubbish everywhere!! What a shame that they have something so beautiful and yet they don’t look after it. It could be a little piece of paradise! There was even a dead dog washed up on the shore! 😢
