Negombo sits on the west coast of Sri Lanka, close to the lagoon and the international airport, and is one of the biggest fishing bases in the country. This trip takes you out from that harbour into deep water for a half-day of deep sea fishing, with a choice of a morning or an afternoon session.
The morning session begins at 6:00 am and the afternoon session at 2:30 pm. Your boat is a 15-foot standard local fisherman's boat, carrying the basics needed for a fishing trip rather than any advanced features; a professional fishing boat can be arranged for an additional charge. Sport fishing equipment and bait are provided on board.

Experience
Two methods are used out here. Trolling means one or more lines or nets, baited or fitted with lures, are trailed behind the moving boat or worked from side to side by hand; it tends to work well in the morning hours. Anchor fishing means the boat is anchored to a stationary object such as a coral reef or rocky area, and the lines are cast from there. You can choose either, and photograph your biggest catch before heading back in.
The deep water off Negombo is used for this activity because of the challenge it presents and the better yield of fish. Bring a cap and sunscreen lotion to avoid sunburn. The tour finishes at 9:00 am or at 6:00 pm, depending on the session you choose.
