Balapitiya is a fishing village nestled along the south-western coastal belt of Sri Lanka. Quiet and unhurried, it sits at a natural crossroads between two of the region's most celebrated destinations, making it both a rewarding stop in its own right and a convenient base for exploring the surrounding coast and inland waterways.

The village lies 8 km south of Kosgoda beach, which is well known as home to turtle hatcheries, and 5 km north of Ambalangoda, celebrated for its fine handicraftsmen selling masks and ornaments.
