This is a set of model examination papers in Sinhala, prepared for children working towards the scholarship examination and pitched at the fourth-grade syllabus. Everything in it — questions, instructions and answers — is in Sinhala, so a child reading and sitting these papers will need to be comfortable in the language.
It belongs to the Gunasena Shishyathwa Thaksalawa series of graded question-paper sets, which runs Star Edition, Super Edition, Smart Edition, Bright Edition and Genius Edition. Smart Edition comes after the Star and Super sets and before Bright and Genius, and the publisher's intention is that a child works through the sequence in order, moving on to the later editions once this stage has been completed. Model papers covering both papers of the examination are included, each with its answers, so that a parent or teacher can mark the work without needing a separate key.
The compilers are Sajith Abeysekara and Kasun Ganewaththa, teachers with experience in primary education who completed their National Diploma in Teaching at the Hapitigama National College of Education, Meerigama. The papers are published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, an established Colombo house with a long presence in Sri Lankan school publishing.
It will suit Sinhala-medium families preparing a child for the scholarship examination at home, as well as teachers and tutors looking for timed practice material at a defined level of difficulty within a progression.
