A work written for children by Cumaratunga Munidasa, and one that has stayed in the hands of Sinhala-reading children since. The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation, so it will suit readers of the language or families raising children in it abroad.

Cumaratunga Munidasa was a Sinhala scholar and grammarian, central to the Hela Havula movement and its argument for a Sinhala vocabulary and style drawn from the language's own roots rather than from Sanskrit and Pali. He wrote a good deal for young readers, and that concern with clear, disciplined Sinhala runs through the work he produced for them. He is remembered in Sinhala with the honorific title Helaye Maha Isi.

The publisher, M. D. Gunasena & Co., is an established Colombo house issuing books in Sinhala and English, and has kept titles of this kind in circulation for Sri Lankan schools and homes.

Of interest to parents and teachers looking for Sinhala reading for children, to readers following Cumaratunga Munidasa's writing, and to anyone assembling a shelf of Sinhala literature outside Sri Lanka.
