A collection of stories drawn from inside the news business, written by Sanka Amarajith and published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena. The pieces turn on things that happen within media organisations and on the odd working lives of journalists — the hours, the habits, the people they deal with to get a story told.

Policemen, politicians and doctors appear throughout, along with an assortment of other characters a reporter meets in the course of the job. The material is presented as real experience rather than invention, and the tone moves between the comic and the affecting. Amarajith writes in plain, everyday Sinhala with a satirical edge, and the stories are short enough to be read one at a time.

Please note: this book is written entirely in Sinhala. There is no English text and no parallel translation. Readers who cannot read Sinhala script will not be able to use it. It will suit Sinhala readers abroad, members of the Sri Lankan diaspora keeping up with contemporary writing from home, and anyone studying Sinhala who wants modern, conversational prose rather than literary formality.

M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller issuing titles in Sinhala and English.
