About this experience
El Parque Nacional Lunugamvehera sirve como un corredor ecológico vital para los elefantes de Sri Lanka que se desplazan entre el Parque Nacional Yala y el Parque Nacional Udawalawe. Declarado área protegida en los años noventa, el parque se extiende por aproximadamente 24.000 hectáreas de bosque siempreverde seco, llanuras onduladas y el área de captación inmediata del Embalse Lunugamvehera, un paisaje moldeado por los ritmos de la zona seca.
Más allá de su población residente de elefantes, el parque alberga un variado conjunto de mamíferos, incluyendo oso perezoso, jabalí salvaje, ciervo manchado, ciervo axis y mangosta gris. La vida aviar es particularmente rica, con más de 200 especies endémicas y migratorias registradas anidando y reproduciéndose dentro de los límites del parque. Entre los avistamientos más notables se encuentran el Águila Culebrera Crestada y el águila serpiente, atrayendo a observadores de aves entusiastas junto con aficionados a la vida silvestre.
Una visita típica dura alrededor de tres horas, tiempo suficiente para cubrir terreno significativo a través de los hábitats contrastantes del parque. Se recomienda reservar su entrada con anticipación, ya que debe poseer el boleto físico en el momento de la entrada.
