Wadduwa Beach House is a small beachfront holiday house in Wadduwa, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka. It has two bedrooms with modern bathrooms, a living room, a dining area and a pantry, and the back garden leads straight onto the beach. With room for four adults and two children, it suits a small family looking for a quiet weekend or a few days by the sea.
The house stands on the beach at Wadduwa, between Colombo and Kalutara on the coastal road and railway. Wadduwa Railway Station, on the line between Colombo and Galle, is only about 100 metres away, and Pinwatte station is about 3 km up the coast. Colombo lies to the north along the shore, and Bandaranaike International Airport is 57 km away as the crow flies.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from Wadduwa by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the house in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. There are two bedrooms, each with a double bed and its own modern bathroom, which together sleep four adults and two children. The living room has a television and a DVD player, and there is a separate dining area and a pantry, so the house works more like a home than a hotel room. The back of the house opens onto the garden and the beach beyond.
Wadduwa is a quiet beach town, and most days here are spent on the sand and in the sea behind the house. Along the coast to the south are the Kalutara Bodhiya temple and Richmond Castle near Kalutara, Brief Garden, the country garden of Bevis Bawa, and Lunuganga, the country estate of his brother Geoffrey Bawa near Bentota, as well as the turtle hatcheries at Kosgoda and the mask workshops of Ambalangoda. Colombo is close enough for a day of shopping and sightseeing, and Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours from the house.
