Jetwing Galle Heritage Home is a three-room restored southern manor in the village of Milidduwa, about ten minutes' drive from Galle Fort. Run by Jetwing Hotels as a private villa rather than a hotel, it keeps the white walls, arched and shuttered windows, timber staircase and terracotta floors of the old house, with modern comforts added, and has a fully equipped kitchen with a traditional wood-fired clay stove.
There are only three rooms, each with a garden view, free Wi-Fi, an electronic safe, tea and coffee making facilities, a hair dryer and Link Natural toiletries. The names below are the ones you will see when you choose a room.
Our rates for this villa are for adults; contact us before booking if you are travelling with children. Baby cots are available on request. With three rooms in all, a party taking the whole house will have the villa entirely to themselves.
Meals are served in the dining room on the ground floor, beneath the arches of the old house, and a private chef can be arranged on request to cook for you in the villa's kitchen, which has both a gas stove and a traditional wood-fired clay hearth. Jetwing also offers signature dining experiences at the villa.
The house is made for slow days: reading on the veranda, long meals and evenings in the garden. Jetwing's guided experiences from the villa include a river safari on the Mahamodara through the rural landscape and a guided walk along the seashore. Galle's beaches, including Unawatuna, are a short drive away, and the southern coast offers snorkelling, diving and, in season, whale watching.
Galle Fort, the walled Dutch town on the headland, is about ten minutes away by car, with the lighthouse, the Dutch Reformed Church, the National Maritime Museum and the ramparts for a sunset walk. Jetwing puts the Rumassala headland, with the white Japanese Peace Pagoda, about 13 minutes away. Inland, the Kanneliya rainforest and the Hiyare reservoir and rainforest are good for walks and birdlife, and the traditional mask museums of Ambalangoda are about an hour up the coast. For more of the town see our guide to Galle.
Yes. Galle railway station, beside the fort, is the main stop on the coastal line from Colombo, and the ride along the shore is one of the pleasures of a southern trip. From the station it is a short drive inland to Milidduwa; arrange a pick-up with the villa or with us in advance.
The villa is about 131 kilometres in a straight line from Bandaranaike International Airport, and most of the drive is on the Southern Expressway. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Jetwing Galle Heritage Home, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits couples, families and small groups of friends who want a quiet, characterful house close to Galle Fort rather than a beach hotel, with the option of a private chef and the chance to take the whole villa. For more choice in the area see our places to stay in Galle, or the other Jetwing hotels around the island.
If I can give this 6 stars, I would because the stay itself is an experience, but don’t go into this expecting to feel like you are in a typical hotel, if you want it to feel like your own house or an airbnb, this is the place to…
I had a great two night stay, everything here is clean and delicately decorated with lots of care. Thanks dayananda for your care and help!
Fantastic place . Calm and quiet. Hospitality was maximum. Close to all important places in Galle. Should specially mention about the butler Dayananda whose hospitality is wonderful and must thank him for making my stay so comfort…
