Dickwella Resort & Spa

Dikwella, Sri Lanka

Dickwella Resort & Spa is a Brown's Hotels beach resort on a small palm-covered peninsula at Dickwella on the south coast, with sand on both sides of the point. Its tile-roofed buildings and garden chalets are spread under coconut palms around a large pool, with three restaurants, including a seafood restaurant at the water's edge, an Ayuwása spa and a kids' club.

Which room should I book?

Rooms are furnished in a traditional style, many with terracotta floors and four-poster beds under mosquito nets, and all have air conditioning, satellite television, Wi-Fi, a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, a shower and a balcony or terrace. The names below are the ones you will see when you book.

  • Standard – the hotel's Standard Room, 31 square metres, opening onto a balcony or terrace with views of the Indian Ocean. It sleeps two adults and a child, and an extra bed can be added for a third adult.
  • Superior – a larger room of 42 square metres with a balcony, an en-suite shower room, a minibar and a mini fridge. Two adults and a child, or three adults with an extra bed.
  • Family – the hotel's Family Suite, 73 square metres with king-size beds and a terrace with ocean views, laid out for families. It sleeps four adults, so book it when there are four of you; with fewer guests, a Standard or Superior room is the better fit.
  • Turtle Bay Suite – a 50-square-metre suite with a balcony, a minibar and mini fridge, for two adults and a child or three adults with an extra bed.

If you would like a particular view or a room close to the beach or the pool, mention it when you book and we will pass the request on to the hotel.

What is the food like?

Sea Spray is the main restaurant. Baywatch is the seafood restaurant, set right where the point meets the sea, and the Pizzeria is the place for a lighter Italian evening. The terraces look out over the ocean.

What is there to do at the resort?

The pool, ringed by sun loungers and palms, is the centre of the resort. The Ayuwása wellness centre offers spa treatments, and there is a fitness centre, mini golf, volleyball, outdoor games and a kids' club. The nearest water sports centre is about eight minutes away.

What is nearby?

The resort sits between Dickwella Beach, where outrigger fishing boats are drawn up on the sand, and a quieter beach on the other side of the point. A short drive east is the horseshoe surf bay of Hiriketiya, and on the edge of Dickwella the Wewurukannala Viharaya is known for its giant seated Buddha. The hotel puts the Hummanaya blowhole about 35 minutes away, the Dondra lighthouse at the island's southern tip about 25 minutes, Polhena Beach, good for snorkelling, about 45 minutes, and Mirissa, where whale watching boats set out, about 50 minutes. Matara, with its Dutch fort, lies to the west and Tangalle to the east.

How do I get from the airport to Dickwella Resort & Spa?

The resort is about 160 kilometres from Bandaranaike International Airport in a straight line, and most of the drive follows the Southern Expressway before joining the coast road. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Dickwella Resort & Spa, which takes you all the way to the door.

Who is Dickwella Resort & Spa best suited to?

It suits families who want a pool, a kids' club and two beaches to choose from, and couples looking for a relaxed, traditional-style resort on a quieter stretch of the south coast, within reach of Hiriketiya's surf and the whale-watching boats at Mirissa.
