Kur Resort Lanka am See is a small Ayurveda resort on the shore of a quiet lake in the countryside inland from Bentota, on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. Swiss-Sri Lankan owned and operated, it has been receiving guests since 2006 and is built entirely around Ayurveda, yoga and rest rather than a beach holiday: there are just 12 chalets, all looking out over the water and the forest beyond, and the resort itself says it is meant for guests who come for wellness rather than for walk-in visitors.
The resort lies in a village setting on the banks of a lake, a few kilometres inland from the coast between Bentota and Induruwa. Induruwa railway station is about 4 km away and Bentota station about 7 km, both in a straight line, and the beaches of Bentota are roughly 15 to 20 minutes away by tuk-tuk, so the sea is easy to reach while the resort itself stays quiet and green.
The drive from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) takes around 2 hours, south around Colombo on the expressways and then inland from the coast to the lake, depending on traffic on the day. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the resort in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Kur Resort Lanka am See.
The 12 chalets were individually designed and set into the garden so that each has an unobstructed view of the lake from its own veranda. Each has either two queen-size beds or one large double bed, a large bathroom, a wardrobe, a desk and a kettle for tea; ten have showers and two have bathtubs.
Treatment plans are drawn up by the resort's Ayurvedic physicians, either individually or as set programmes, including Panchakarma-based courses, and physicians are on call within the resort around the clock. At the back of the property are four treatment rooms and a separate Shirodhara room, and the herbal preparations are made in the resort's own medicine unit. Yoga classes are held every morning in the yoga pavilion, there are meditation sessions, and between treatments guests can use the swimming pool, the loungers in the garden and a small barefoot path. Stays are usually booked as packages of a week or more.
Meals are vegetarian and often vegan, cooked fresh from local, organic and seasonal ingredients and adapted to each guest's Ayurvedic constitution, or dosha, as part of the treatment plan. They are served on the restaurant's large covered terrace looking out over the lake.
Most guests spend their days at the resort, but the coast is close: the golden beaches of Bentota and Induruwa, boat trips through the mangroves of the Bentota River, the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda and Geoffrey Bawa's Lunuganga estate are all within a short drive. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours from the resort.
