Celestia Ayurveda Resort is an Ayurveda retreat a short way inland from the beach at Bentota, built around stays that combine accommodation, Ayurvedic meals and a treatment programme planned with the resort's Ayurveda physicians. There are 60 guest rooms and 5 villas, a spa, a yoga and meditation area, a swimming pool and gardens, and every booking is made on a full-board basis.
The resort is at 243 Elpitiya Road in Arachchimulla, on the inland side of Bentota on the south-west coast, about 2.7 km from Bentota Beach. Bentota railway station is around 2.2 km away and Aluthgama station around 2.4 km, and the Bentota River airstrip is about 3 km from the hotel.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) lies north of Colombo, and the drive down to the resort usually takes around 2 hours on the airport and Southern expressways, depending on traffic around Colombo. The simplest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the resort in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. Accommodation comes in four categories: Classic, Comfort and Supreme rooms, and the Villas. Each has a private balcony, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a tea and coffee maker and an en-suite bathroom with a shower, and selected rooms add a seating area.
Stays are built around four treatment packages: Wellness, focused on rest and relaxation; Alankara, centred on beauty treatments, skin and hair care; Panchakarma, the classical five-procedure programme; and High Cure, the most intensive. Each begins with a consultation with an Ayurveda physician, who draws up a personal treatment plan and a meal plan to go with it. The kitchen is vegetarian, with vegan and gluten-free options, and cooks from a repertoire of some 250 Ayurvedic dishes that combine local ingredients and traditional techniques.
Between treatments, Bentota's long beach and the Bentota River, with its boat trips through the mangroves, are close by. Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, is about 1.7 km from the resort, and Brief Garden, created by his brother Bevis Bawa, about 5 km. Further along the coast are the turtle hatchery at Kosgoda, about 9 km away, and Galle Fort, an easy day trip that the resort also offers as a tour.
