Amarya Resort

Bentota, Sri Lanka

Amarya Resort is a small, quiet resort on Sumanarama Mawatha in Bentota, set back from the coast among gardens around an outdoor swimming pool. Its rooms look out over the pool, and the beach, the Bentota River and the town are all a short drive away, which makes it a relaxed, good-value place to stay on the south-west coast.

Where is Amarya Resort?

The resort lies on the inland side of Bentota, about 2 km from Bentota Beach, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka. Bentota railway station is about 1.6 km away in a straight line and Aluthgama station about 2 km, both on the coastal line between Colombo and Galle, and Induruwa is a little further south.

How do I get from Colombo Airport to Amarya Resort?

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 110 km from Bentota by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the resort in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Amarya Resort.

What are the rooms like?

The rooms are Deluxe Double and Deluxe Triple Rooms, each with air conditioning, a balcony or terrace with a view of the pool, a kettle with tea and coffee, and a private bathroom with a bath or shower, a hairdryer and toiletries.

Where can I eat and drink?

The resort's restaurant serves Chinese and British dishes, with vegetarian and halal meals available on request, and breakfast can be continental, à la carte or a full English. There is a bar beside the pool for drinks during the day, room service, and packed lunches can be prepared for days out.

What is there to do around Bentota?

Most days start with the pool and the garden, and Bentota Beach is a short ride away for swimming and sunbathing. The Bentota River is known for water-skiing, jet skiing and boat rides through the mangroves, while Brief Garden and Lunuganga, Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, are both close by inland. Further south are the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda and Galle Fort, an easy day trip. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the resort.
