Thebu Herbal Tea from Malwatte Valley is made from thebu (Costus speciosus), a leafy plant with spiralling stems and broad green leaves, often grown in Sri Lankan home gardens. It is a traditional Sri Lankan herbal drink, here packed in pyramid tea bags so it is as easy to make as a cup of tea.
Thebu leaves are also eaten in Sri Lanka as a green, cooked like other leafy greens. The pouch is part of the Malwatte herbal range, a series of single-herb teas each in its own illustrated pouch.
In the pack
- 25 pyramid tea bags, 37.5g net weight (about 1.5 g each)
- Black resealable stand-up pouch with an illustrated label
- A single herb, no tea leaf listed on the pack
How to brew
Put one pyramid bag in a cup, pour on boiled water and leave it for 5 minutes before lifting the bag out. Drink it plain, or add a little honey or jaggery if you like.
Storage
Press the seal closed after each use and keep the pouch in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
