This is OPA black tea in the tall Malwatte Pure Ceylon Tea box: a red printed card box with a drawing of birds and yellow flowers, the Ceylon Tea lion mark and 100 gms on the front.
OPA stands for orange pekoe A, a whole-leaf grade of larger, bolder long leaf than OP. It opens up slowly in the pot and gives a mellow, lighter-bodied cup. The tea is grown and made by Malwatte Valley Plantations, which has about 4,500 hectares of tea in the Uva region.
In the box
- 100g of OPA Ceylon black tea
- Tall printed card box from the Pure Ceylon Tea range
- The same grade is also sold in the newer Best Sellers Tea Choice box
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) per cup with freshly boiled water and brew for 4 to 5 minutes. Drink it plain as kahata, or with milk and sugar.
Storage
Once opened, fold the inner pack closed or tip the leaf into an airtight caddy, and keep it in a cool, dry place away from strong smells.
Malwatte is the food brand of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC of Colombo, a Sri Lankan grower, manufacturer and exporter of tea and spices.
