The Gangaramaya Nawam Maha Perahera is an annual Buddhist procession held in Colombo in honour of Lord Buddha, typically taking place in January or February. Organised by the Gangaramaya Temple, the procession brings together traditional dancers, drummers, fire performers, acrobats, and magnificently adorned elephants parading through the streets in a grand expression of spiritual devotion and Sri Lankan cultural heritage.
Tickets include a private seat at one of several designated viewing areas along the procession route. Guests may request a preferred location at the time of booking, and Lakpura will do its best to accommodate that preference, though seat availability will determine the final allocation. Possible viewing locations include the Gangaramaya Temple premises on Sri Jinarathana Road, the area in front of Colombo City Center near Seema Malaka, the Beira Lake front viewing area, Galle Face Green roadside, Ceramic Junction, and Slave Island Junction. If a requested location cannot be confirmed, seats will be arranged at one of the other designated areas along the announced route.
Guests are advised to be at their allocated location by 17:00 for the evening procession or 14:00 for a daytime perahera. The precise starting time follows the auspicious timing set by the Gangaramaya Temple, which is announced closer to the event. In the event of a route change for security reasons, seating will be arranged along the route officially announced by the temple. All ticket sales are final, with no refunds, and full payment is required at the time of reservation.
