About this experience
Set out from Kalpitiya on a private, five-hour birdwatching walk through Anawilundawa Sanctuary — one of only six RAMSAR Wetlands in Sri Lanka. Positioned between the coast and the Chilaw–Puttalam railway line in the North Western Province, the sanctuary sits at the meeting point of three distinct ecosystems: open coast, mangrove forest, and freshwater tanks. That rare combination draws hundreds of bird species to nest and breed here year-round, making it one of the most rewarding spots on the island for birders of any level.
Your knowledgeable guide leads the walk, pointing out species and sharing insight on the wetland habitat as you explore. Transfer to and from Kalpitiya is by air-conditioned vehicle, and entrance tickets are included in the price. Children aged five and above are welcome. Gratuities and food and drink are not included, so bring a packed lunch and plenty of water for the trail.
