About this experience
Your private 10-hour day trip from Negombo begins with hotel pickup at 07:30 in an air-conditioned vehicle, your English-speaking chauffeur guide alongside you for the full day. By 9:00 am you reach Bentota and head first to Lunuganga, Sir Geoffrey Bawa's country estate, shaped by the celebrated architect-turned-lawyer from 1947 until his death in 1998. Spend two hours wandering the sculpted gardens and terraced lawns he used as his personal design laboratory, then continue to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, where touch pools hold baby sea turtles and staff care for mature turtles recovering from injury.
From there it's a short run to Balapitiya for a boat safari on the Madu River, a high-biodiversity lagoon fringed by dense mangrove forest. Your guide steers past tangled roots and free-standing islands before hotel drop-off back in Negombo. Lakpura includes transport, chauffeur, river safari, and a one-litre water bottle per person; entrance fees, meals, and gratuities are extra.
