About this experience

Your private, 10-hour day trip from Negombo begins with hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle, with an English-speaking chauffeur guide beside you throughout. The first stop is Lunuganga, the country estate of celebrated architect Sir Geoffrey Bawa — a quietly eccentric landscape of sculpted gardens, terraced lawns, and colonial-era architecture set above a cinnamon lake. Your guide walks you through the grounds, bringing the history and vision of Bawa's personal masterwork to life.

From Lunuganga, you head to the Madu River for a boat safari through one of Sri Lanka's most distinctive mangrove ecosystems — a network of 64 islands where you can watch birdlife, spot water monitors, and glide beneath a canopy of interlocking roots. A one-litre water bottle per person is provided, and Lakpura arranges all hotel pickup and drop-off. Gratuities, meals, and any entrance fees are at your own cost.
