Green Hills is a Ceylon green tea from the Tea Spirit range by Battler, packed as 100 g of loose leaf in a tin caddy. The Tea Spirit teas each carry a name and a mood of their own, and Green Hills is the one green tea in the set.
It is a GP1 grade, a gunpowder style in which each leaf is rolled into a small, tight pellet. In hot water the pellets unfurl into whole leaves and give a fresh, grassy infusion with a light colour.
In the pack
- 100 g of loose leaf Ceylon green tea, GP1 grade
- Tin caddy, sealed for freshness
- Shelf life of three years from packing, per the maker
Tasting notes
- Leaf: small, tightly rolled pellets
- Aroma: fresh and grassy
- Taste: light and clean, with green, vegetal notes
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup and water at about 80 C, just off the boil. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes and strain; longer steeping turns green tea bitter. Gunpowder leaf expands a lot, so a level teaspoon is enough, and the leaves can be steeped again.
Serving ideas
Serve plain in small cups, or add fresh mint leaves to the pot for a simple mint green tea.
