About this experience
Take your seat and watch one of Sri Lanka's most celebrated cultural spectacles unfold before you — the Kandy Esala Perahera. Held annually in August on dates set by the Diyawadana Nilame of the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic), this grand procession fills the streets of Kandy with elaborately adorned elephants, traditional Kandyan dancers, drummers, and fire performers. Your Lakpura booking secures a dedicated viewing seat so you can focus on the pageantry rather than the crowds.
The event runs for approximately four hours. Hotel pickup, drop-off, and a tour guide are not included, giving you the freedom to arrive and depart on your own schedule. Food and drinks are also at your own expense, so come prepared. No minimum age applies, making this a fitting occasion for the whole family to witness a festival whose origins, as one early chronicler of Ceylon noted, are "lost in the mists of centuries".
