Harischandra Coconut Vinegar is a Sri Lankan vinegar made from coconut water and sugar, the two ingredients the maker lists. The bottle is labelled Coconut Water Vinegar in Sinhala, Tamil and English, with a picture of king coconuts and a split nut.
Coconut vinegar is the everyday vinegar of Sri Lankan kitchens. It gives a mild, clean sourness that suits meat dishes, pickles and the vinegar-dressed salads served with rice. It is offered here in 350ml and 750ml bottles.
In the kitchen
- A splash in pork, beef or chicken curries, and in black pork curry, balances the richness of the dish.
- Use it for achcharu (Sri Lankan pickle) of carrot, green chilli, shallots and papaya.
- Add a little to marinades, dressings and the onion and tomato salad served with lamprais or rice.
In the pack
- Ingredients: coconut water, sugar.
- Sizes: 350ml or 750ml bottle.
Storage
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool place away from sunlight.
