Palagama Beach is a boutique resort on the Kalpitiya peninsula along Sri Lanka's Western Coast, designed around the idea of offering guests a private home of their own rather than a conventional hotel stay. Nestled among miles of golden beaches shared with lush jungles and sand dunes, the property brings together village cabanas and villas in a setting that feels genuinely secluded.

The ambience throughout is rustic yet elegant, drawing on local village styles of the area while weaving in a quiet sense of luxury. Guests can dine within their own villa, swim with views of the Indian Ocean, or watch dolphins from the shore — all without straying far from their private retreat. The resort sits on Alankuda Beach, a stretch of the Kalpitiya peninsula that is becoming an increasingly popular destination, roughly two hours' drive north of the International Airport.

Accommodation

Palagama Beach offers four distinct types of accommodation, each with its own character and level of privacy.

Village Cabanas

Three village cabanas are available. The Jasmine Cabana — the first ever built at the property — features a raised front veranda, luxurious red wood detailing, and a back garden with a low cushioned bed ideal for an afternoon nap; it sleeps three guests and includes a hot shower with an attached bathroom. The Nellum Cabana is the largest of the three, distinguished by a private back garden shaded by large palm trees and a low cushioned relaxation area; it can sleep up to four guests. The Rosa Cabana is set within a spacious garden enclosed by a bamboo fence, styled as a traditional village hut with thatched roofing and a veranda, with facilities matching those of the Nellum.

Beach Cabana

The newest addition to the resort, the Beach Cabana sits directly on the beach and is constructed entirely from wood and thatched roofing. It offers magnificent views of the Indian Ocean and a private deck from which guests can watch the sun set over calm blue waters. The cabana sleeps four and includes a cold shower with an attached bathroom.

Begonia Villa

Spacious and highly private, the Begonia Villa contains two en-suite bedrooms and can be rented either as a whole or as individual living areas. A garden ambalama provides a spot for quiet rest, while a private tree-top deck offers views of the surrounding landscape. The villa comfortably accommodates four guests and can sleep up to eight, with hot shower and attached bathroom facilities included.

Araliya House

Set apart from the main village on a flat four-acre plain, the Araliya House is composed of two separate units — a living quarters sleeping up to four people, and a kitchen with living room area. Its uniquely curved roof and charming design give it a character all of its own. Comfortable interiors, an attached bathroom, and a hot shower complete the offering, making it one of the more secluded choices on the property.
