Lotus Villa Ayurveda Resort, Ahungalla
Lotus Villa is an Ayurvedic resort situated in Ahungalla along the South Western Coast of Sri Lanka, approximately 75 km from Colombo. Nestled amidst palm trees on a long stretch of sandy beach directly by the Indian Ocean, the property specialises exclusively in Ayurveda, bringing together a dedicated team of doctors and therapists to care for each guest.
What sets Lotus Villa apart is its wholly integrated approach: every element of a guest's stay — from the room to the plate — is shaped around an individual wellness plan drawn up by the villa's Ayurvedic physicians.
Accommodation
Lotus Villa comprises 6 single rooms and 14 double rooms, each regarded as a personal sanctuary for the guest or patient. The double rooms include 2 washbasins each, and three rooms are fitted with connecting doors to allow separation during therapy sessions when needed. Rooms are equipped with fans and mosquito nets in place of air-conditioning, and all are fitted with an alarm bell. Three rooms offer wheelchair access. Bed linen and towels are changed daily to manage the oil and medicine residue that naturally accompanies Ayurvedic treatments. Water beds are available for guests with back problems at an additional fee.
Treatments and Facilities
Each guest receives a personal nutritional plan that is forwarded directly to the kitchen and restaurant, and every meal is checked by one of the villa's Ayurvedic physicians. Conditions treated at Lotus Villa include various allergies, acne, arthritis, cholesterol issues, migraine, asthma, diabetes, hay fever, eczema, and gastritis, among others. Internal detoxification therapies and immunity-strengthening treatments are also offered.
The ground floor houses the restaurant, treatment rooms, and bedrooms, all of which are wheelchair accessible. The garden is a focal point of the property, featuring a meditation fountain, an Ayurvedic herbal sauna, a stony oil bath tub for skin treatments, a raised yoga and meditation platform, and a fresh water pool. On-site, guests will also find a pharmacy and an oil kitchen where the oils and medicines used in treatments are produced. Additional facilities include a launderette, office, workshop, staff quarters, a water filtering system, and accommodation for the physician and manager on night duty.
Entertainment and Evening Programmes
Lotus Villa arranges a variety of cultural entertainment for its guests. Every fortnight, a magician, devil dancers, and a dance group from the villa perform, while weekly live bands and music are organised. Three evenings a week, one of the doctors holds a discussion session with the assistance of an interpreter.
Exploring Ahungalla and the Surroundings
Ahungalla itself is a small fishing village with a serene stretch of sandy beach lined with palm trees and tropical gardens. Guests with time between therapy sessions can explore the area, enjoy a boat safari along the Madu Ganga river, or visit the local turtle hatchery. The historic city of Galle, home to the celebrated Dutch Fort and many ruins from past centuries, is also within reach. The South Western Coast is well known for its beaches and water sports, offering further opportunities for relaxation and discovery.
