Heritance Ayurveda Maha Gedara, Beruwela
Heritance Ayurveda Maha Gedara sits along the sun-kissed beaches of Moragalle, Beruwela, approximately 60 km from Colombo and around 90 km from Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. Formerly known as the Neptune Hotel, the property has been reimagined as a haven of Ayurvedic healing, where the rhythm of treatment, rest and nourishment takes precedence over the distractions of modern life.
Beruwela marks the starting point of a 130 km stretch of beaches that lines the island's southwestern coast — a setting that lends itself naturally to the hotel's philosophy of harmony with nature and recovery from the stresses of contemporary living.
Accommodation
The hotel offers 20 bungalow-style accommodation units, each tastefully decorated and opening directly onto a private garden. In keeping with the retreat philosophy, televisions are intentionally absent from most rooms, available only in suites and corner rooms. Each unit is equipped with individually controlled air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a mini safe, hot and cold water, a rain shower, piped music, a hair dryer and a telephone. A mini fridge is available on request.
Ayurvedic Treatments and Facilities
The heart of Heritance Maha Gedara is its comprehensive treatment programme, overseen by a chief consultant doctor and a team of qualified graduate doctors. The facility includes four consultation rooms, twelve multi-purpose individual treatment and therapy rooms with water features, an Ayurveda Pharmacy, a herbal medicine preparation area, and a dedicated yoga and meditation hall. All therapies are carried out by professionally trained therapists under the supervision of highly qualified medical staff.
The cuisine served at the property is built on a three-fold foundation of taste, medicinal value and presentation. Meals are taken in a spacious restaurant overlooking the swimming pool — a setting that makes every dining experience part of the wider sense of restoration the hotel aims to provide.
Beyond the treatment centre, guests have access to twin swimming pools, a library, an arts and crafts centre, a souvenir shop, foreign currency encashment, email and internet facilities, laundry and mail services, and a large tropical garden filled with water features, relaxing areas and open lounges.
Excursions from Beruwela
Guests wishing to explore the surrounding area have several rewarding options nearby. The Brief Garden, the Galpoththa Temple and the turtle hatcheries of Kosgoda — which are run purely on volunteer support and donations and play a vital role in protecting endangered sea turtle species — are among the most popular short trips. River cruises along the nearby waterways offer a gentle way to take in the local flora and fauna.
The neighbouring towns of Aluthgama and Bentota offer a wide range of water sports, including windsurfing, water-skiing, jet scooters, parasailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, deep-sea game fishing and PADI diving courses led by qualified instructors. The beach at Beruwela itself is well protected, making it a calm and welcoming base for both rest and activity.
