Elephant Reach Yala — A Nature Resort in Sri Lanka's South

Elephant Reach Yala is a luxury nature resort situated in the south of Sri Lanka, approximately 265 km from Colombo, passing through Weligama, Tangalle and several seaside towns along the way. Spread across 4 acres of land and built beneath the shade of tropical trees — including Kohomba, Mango and Kadju (cashew) — the property is designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings.

The drive from the airport to the resort is itself described as picturesque, offering guests an early taste of the landscapes that define this corner of the island. Once arrived, the atmosphere is one of quiet immersion in nature, balanced by the comfort of well-appointed modern facilities.

Accommodation

Elephant Reach offers 21 chalets and 14 standard rooms, most of which are interconnecting. Every unit is thoughtfully furnished to complement the natural setting while providing privacy and security. Each chalet comes equipped with air-conditioning, an electronic safe, a well-stocked minibar, a 20-inch television with satellite channels, a DVD player, a hair dryer, a spacious bathroom with hot and cold water, and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities.

Facilities

Dining is centred around an air-conditioned restaurant that serves Sri Lankan culinary delights alongside selected Western specialties. After a day of exploration, the Mahout's Bar provides a relaxed setting to unwind with drinks. The outdoor swimming pool is a focal point of the grounds, complemented by sun loungers positioned beneath the shade of the property's magnificent trees. A pool bar is on hand to refresh guests after a swim, and a pool table provides additional recreation for adults, while younger guests have access to a dedicated playing area.

Other on-site facilities include laundry services, a beautifully landscaped garden, IDD facilities, and safari jeeps with experienced guides for excursions into the surrounding wilderness.

Excursions and Nearby National Parks

The resort's location places it within easy reach of several renowned national parks and sanctuaries. The Yala wildlife sanctuary — one of the best-preserved in Sri Lanka — is approximately a 30-minute drive away. Within its boundaries, visitors can encounter elephants, leopards, sloth bears, crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boar, sambhur, hare, iguana, snakes, and birds in their thousands.

Bundala is another popular excursion destination, famed for its birds and wild animals. Uda Walawe is home to around 250 elephants, as well as deer, leopards and numerous bird species. Kumana, a bird sanctuary centred on a natural swamp lake, and Lahugala, a smaller elephant park, are also within reach. Guests may additionally visit Kataragama, a location of significant religious importance to many Sri Lankans.
