Bu deneyim hakkında
Baby Turtle Release from Bentota is an evening outing to a turtle hatchery on Sri Lanka's southwest coast, where you help carry newly hatched sea turtles down the beach and watch them make their first crawl into the ocean. It is a short, gentle trip from your hotel, and one of the few chances a visitor has to see hatchlings take to the sea up close.
The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel in Bentota in an air-conditioned vehicle, driven by an English-speaking chauffeur guide. At the hatchery you learn how the turtles' eggs are collected and protected, how the hatchlings are cared for until they are ready, and what the young turtles face once they leave the shore.
The high point comes as the light fades. The hatchlings are set down on the sand near the water's edge and left to find their own way, tiny flippers working hard against the slope of the beach, until a wave lifts them away. It is a quiet, affecting few minutes, and one that children and adults remember long after the holiday.
Turtle releases run only from February to June and take place in the evening, so plan your booking within that season. The price covers transport throughout, the chauffeur guide, hotel pickup and drop-off in Bentota, all entrance fees to the turtle hatchery and conservation centre, one litre of bottled mineral water per person, and all taxes and service charges. Food and drinks, gratuities and personal expenses are not included. At the end of the evening you are driven back to your hotel in Bentota.
