Cinnamon House is a sea-facing private villa with five en-suite bedrooms just west of Weligama, sleeping up to ten around its own pool and rooftop lounge. Run by The Serendipity Collection, the white, terracotta-roofed house steps down the hillside on several levels to a terrace and pool just above the shore, with Mirissa about 5 kilometres to the east and Galle Fort around half an hour's drive away.
The house has five air-conditioned bedrooms, each with its own bathroom with a walk-in shower, a smart television, an in-room safe and a writing table. The master bedroom has a separate seating area. You can book the house in three ways, and the names below are the ones you will see when you choose.
If you book one room or three, the remaining bedrooms may be let to other guests; book the Full Villa if you want the house entirely private.
Cinnamon House has whitewashed walls, terracotta tiled roofs, carved timber shutters and doors, and stone-faced terraces. An entrance lobby doubles as a space for a banquet or a long family dinner, and the ocean-facing terraces are set with sunbeds. The pool sits on a terrace overlooking the sea, there is a private dining canopy with a barbecue, and the rooftop lounge looks out over the bay and the palm-covered headland next door. Laundry services are available.
The south coast around Weligama is one of Sri Lanka's best areas for surfing, and Weligama Beach, about 2.5 kilometres away in a straight line, is popular with beginners; more experienced surfers head west to Midigama. In the bay off Weligama sits the tiny Taprobane Island. To the east, boats for whale watching leave from Mirissa harbour, and Mirissa Beach and Coconut Tree Hill are a short drive away. Along the coast towards Galle you can watch the stilt fishermen, and the walls and lanes of Galle Fort make an easy day out. The house can arrange yacht charters, diving and surfing.
Yes. Weligama station on the coastal line from Colombo is about 2.5 kilometres away in a straight line. The coastal train is slow but scenic; arrange a pick-up from the station with us in advance.
Cinnamon House is about 147 kilometres from Bandaranaike International Airport in a straight line; the drive follows the Southern Expressway for most of the way. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Cinnamon House, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits families and groups of friends who want a private house by the sea with space to spread out, and couples who would like the feel of a villa without booking the whole of it. It makes a comfortable base for several nights of surfing, whale watching and day trips along the south coast. For more choice in the area see our places to stay in Mirissa.
