Wishing Tree Boutique Resort & Spa is a ten-key hideaway on a forested hillside at Viharagala, Beragala, just below Haputale in Sri Lanka’s southern hill country. Timber-and-glass pavilions step down the slope, so almost every room, terrace and the pool look straight out over layered ridges and, on most mornings, a sea of cloud in the valleys below. It is small, quiet and built around slow days: yoga at sunset, a walk through the forest with a guide, a session at the potter’s wheel, a treatment in the spa.
Location:
The resort sits in Viharagala, about 7 km from Beragala Junction. Diyaluma Falls, the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, is a short drive away, and Haputale town, Lipton’s Seat, Adisham Monastery and the tea estates of the Haputale ridge are all easy half-day outings. Horton Plains National Park and Ella work as day trips. Views are usually clearest in the early morning, before the mist rises.
Rooms and suites:
There are just ten rooms and suites, all in warm timber with large glass doors and a private furnished balcony or terrace facing the hills. Some have their own plunge pool.
Rooms have a minibar and daily housekeeping, and laundry is available. Early check-in and late check-out can be arranged on request, subject to availability.

Experiences at the resort:
Wishing Tree calls itself an experiential hideaway, and the activities are a big part of a stay here:
Good to know:
Choose Wishing Tree for a quiet, design-led mountain retreat with a pool, a spa and things to do on the property itself, rather than a big hotel. Couples on a honeymoon and travellers breaking the journey between the hill country and the south coast or Yala get the most from it.
