About this experience
Step out of Kandy and into one of Sri Lanka's most storied landscapes on this 12.5-hour guided day tour. Your English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you directly from your hotel and drives you north in an air-conditioned vehicle to Sigiriya Rock Fortress — a UNESCO World Heritage Site rising 200 metres above the surrounding plains. Climb the ancient citadel, walk the royal gardens at its base, and take in the sweeping views that have drawn travellers for centuries. From there, a traditional village tour in Sigiriya introduces you to rural Sri Lankan life, rounded off with a included village lunch.
The afternoon brings a change of pace at Habarana Lake, where a guided bird-watching session lets you scan the water's edge and surrounding greenery for the area's diverse avian residents. Each person receives a 1-litre water bottle throughout the day. Hotel drop-off is included, and the tour runs in English for travellers aged five and above. Gratuities and any meals not specified in the itinerary are at your own expense.
