A seemingly ordinary outbreak of theft at a London student hostel takes on mysterious dimensions when the stolen items—a stethoscope, flannel trousers, chocolates, a slashed rucksack, and a diamond ring discovered in soup—defy all logic. Hercule Poirot arrives to find a puzzle that confounds conventional explanation, leading him to uncover far darker crimes beneath the surface of petty larceny. Harper Collins Publishers presents this classic Agatha Christie mystery where nothing is as it appears.
