About this experience
Rising sheer from the central plains, the rocky outcrop of Sigiriya is perhaps Sri Lanka's single most dramatic sight — near-vertical walls soaring to a flat-topped summit that holds the ruins of King Kassapa's short-lived fifth-century kingdom. On this private day trip from Kandy you climb the 'Lion Rock', passing the entrance framed by colossal lion's paws to reach terraced gardens, still-working cisterns and the famous unfading murals.
The tour then continues to Dambulla and its Golden Temple, a cave complex dating back to the 1st century BC. Inside the five main caves you'll find ancient murals telling the life story of the Buddha and hundreds of figurines, with a giant golden Buddha statue standing just outside. An English-speaking chauffeur guide and hotel transfers from Kandy are provided.
