Wild Sands, also listed as Wild Sands Beach Villa, is a small guest house at Pinwatte, at the northern end of Wadduwa on Sri Lanka's south-west coast. It has just three guest rooms, an outdoor pool set in a garden and the sea a short walk away, which makes it a quiet, informal alternative to the large beach hotels along this stretch of coast.
The villa is on Pinwatta Station Road, between Wadduwa and Panadura, about 200 metres from Pinwatte Station on the coastal railway line between Colombo and Galle and close to the beach. Panadura Station and Wadduwa Station are each about 3 km away, and Colombo lies to the north along the coast road.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the villa by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. With only three rooms, Wild Sands feels more like a private villa than a hotel. The rooms suit couples as well as families or small groups travelling together, and free Wi-Fi reaches the rooms as well as the shared areas. Daily housekeeping is provided, and laundry can be arranged for an extra charge.
The outdoor pool sits in the garden, where there are also barbecue grills for evenings outside. An English breakfast is served each morning for an extra charge, parking on site is free, and English is spoken at the front desk, which is staffed from early morning until the evening.
Wadduwa is a quiet beach town, so most days here are spent on the sand or by the pool, with the local train from Pinwatte an easy way to reach Panadura or Colombo. Further south are the turtle hatcheries of the south-west coast, the historic city of Galle with its fort, and Mirissa, the base for whale-watching trips in season. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the villa.
